Russia open to dialogue and diplomacy on situation in Ukraine, Nebenzia affirms
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, reiterated that his country is open to dialogue and diplomacy on the situation in Ukraine, but at the same time, it will not allow new bloodshed in the Donbas region, eastern Ukraine
“it is important to focus on how to stop the war and compel the Ukrainian authorities to stop bombing the territories of the republics of Lugansk and Donetsk,” Russia Today website quoted Nebenzia as saying during an emergency session of the UN Security Council called by the United States, France, Britain, Ireland and Albania
He noted that the Donbass region is threatened by a new Ukrainian military adventure and his country cannot allow that
Commenting on the stances regarding Russia’s announcement of its recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, the Russian representative said: “We have heard statements full of emotions regarding the Russian move and international positions that suggest that Russia’s recognition was a sudden step, but this is not true,” noting that the West is unabashedly pumping weapons into Ukraine
Nebenzia pointed out that the Kiev government led by Volodymyr Zelensky returned to a hard rhetoric and did everything to destroy the Minsk agreements on the settlement in Donetsk and Luhansk, indicating that the United States and the West played a negative role in Ukraine, and Russia’s recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk doesn’t change the content of the Minsk agreements
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed two decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics
