Iran calls for full, and non-discriminatory implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention
Iran affirmed the necessity of stopping the trend that has weakened the Chemical Weapons Convention’s authority and the credibility of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
Stopping the trend, which is adopted by some countries towards certain files, is in the interest of the Convention, the OPCW, the rule of law and the maintenance of international peace and security, Iran’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Zahra Ershadi, said in a statement before the UN Security Council on Thursday
Ershadi pointed out to the serious efforts made by the Syrian government in implementing its obligations within the framework of the Convention, indicating that Syria’s fulfillment of its obligations resulting from its joining this Convention within the shortest period of time and in exceptional circumstances indicate the importance of the efforts made by it in this regard, voicing regret over the politicization of Syria’s chemical file by some countries
Ershadi called for, the full, effective and non-discriminatory implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention
“We also strongly call for the Convention’s universality. To achieve this noble objective, the Israeli regime must be compelled to join the Convention without any precondition or further delay”. She said
