UN reiterates illegitimacy of Israeli occupation measures in occupied Syrian Golan, Palestinian territories
The United Nations has reiterated the invalidity of the measures of the Israeli occupation entity in the occupied Syrian Golan, stressing the illegitimacy of the annexation measures imposed by this entity in the Golan and its violations of the rights of Syrian citizens and the discrimination against them
In a periodic report distributed in Beirut, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) said, “The compliance with the international law and the absence of impunity are two prerequisites for achieving peace and justice for all the peoples of the region”
The report, which deals with the period from April 2020 to March 2021, also referred to the impossibility of achieving sustainable development in the occupied Palestinian territories in light of the continued Israeli occupation and the policies and practices pursued by it, stressing the need to stop these measures that hinder efforts to combat COVID-19 pandemic and to provide additional humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in this framework
The report stressed that the measures and policies of the Israeli occupation in the Arab territories occupied since 1967, including murders, the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip and settlement expansion, are inconsistent with international law
The report pointed out that last year was one of the worst years in the Palestinian economy since 2002, as it contracted by 11.5 percent
It is noteworthy that ESCWA prepares every year the report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on the economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories and the conditions of the Syrians in the occupied Syrian Golan
