Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad on Thursday received Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Anna Kuznetsova, and the accompanying delegation.

The two sides stressed the bilateral friendship and partnership relations between the two countries in different spheres, particularly in the humanitarian field and in counterterrorism in Syria.

Mikdad presented a detailed review to the Russian delegation on the latest developments on counterterrorism and the suffering of children in the areas that were under control of terrorist groups, touching upon the catastrophic situation of the displaced children and women in al-Haul Camp.

Mikdad lauded the attention paid by the Russian Federation for turning back the Russian children who are in al-Haul Camp in coordination with the Syrian state; on contrary, some western states evade their obligations in accordance to the international humanitarian law, expressing Syria’s readiness to offer all the required facilities for the return of the Russian children from Syria to their country.

For her part, Kuznetsova lauded the importance of the cooperation offered by the Syrian side for facilitating the safe return of the Russian children in Syria, stressing the humanitarian efforts exerted by the Syrian government to alleviate suffering of the children due to terrorism in Syria.

She also expressed keenness of the Russian Federation to preserve sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic.
